Suggestion for transgender community to use disabled toilet irrelevant, says Pas
KUALA LUMPUR: The suggestion for transgender people to use public toilets meant for the disabled is not only irrelevant but does not address the issue altogether said Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
He said, by right, the matter should be properly addressed and rectified.
“Such suggestion is not relevant. We should not encourage them.
“In my opinion, whatever that is against ‘hukum syarak’ (Islamic law), we must rectify it immediately.
“Yes, we should respect them as human beings and Allah’s creation but we should never encourage any elements that against ‘hukum syarak’,” he said when met at the Parliament lobby today.
On Sunday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Fuziah Salleh had suggested for a transgender person, who is conflicted over public toilet usage, to use lavatories meant for the disabled for the time being.
Fuziah said the option to use toilets for the disable is a short-term solution if those in the transgender community were uncomfortable with using either the men’s or women’s lavatories, while the government searches for a better solution.
